How to act around female gamers.

How to act around female gamers.

Ten ways to act around female gamers and not come off as an asshole.

We all know online gaming is a male dominated world. As a real female gamer, I decided to compile a list of ways for men to properly act around a female gamer when they do happen to run across one. Before we get to my list, not all female gamers are the same so keep that in mind.

  1. Don't make a big deal about our gender. It comes off as immature. Also it feels like you don't really have any contact with females in your daily life.
  2.  Don't immediately ask her to be your "grlfran". Most likely it's not going to happen.
  3. Don't assume we are only gaming so we can get attention from men. Honestly most of us are here to game because guess what... we enjoy gaming.
  4.  Actually talking to us about the game or other games is always a good thing. It makes us feel like we are more than a set of female genitalia to you.
  5. Don't be over critical. We may not have the same play style as you. Good advice is welcome for some of us, but being a complete jerk about it just makes you look like an elitest asshole.
  6. Don't assume we are all fat. No, it's not scientifically proven. That's just stupid.
  7.  No, we will not have sex with you. Don't ask.
  8. Remember that just like males vary in gaming ability so do females. Some better or worse than others. We aren't all prestige masters, but some of us are. If her abilities aren't the greatest then you could always give her pointers without being mean about it.
  9. Save your "back to the kitchen" jokes. They aren't funny, they are way overused. Honestly everyone belongs in the kitchen anyways.... because that's where the food is.
  10.  Last but not least, treat us like you would any other male friend you have. We have something in common, our love for video games!
